Follow up

Well, after I joined and went to the gym last week, I proceeded to catch Sierra's cold. So I didn't work out again until yesterday. But yesterday I did a 1/2 hour spinning class (I'm easing into the spinning) and today I did the Muscle Conditioning on the Ball class again. I love this class. She works on muscles through the whole body, including a lot of work on the back and abs, which I really, really need. Because Steve and I both are making the working out a priority, we are helping each other make time and encouraging each other to go. I'm still optimistic, despite the 6 days off due to sickness.

Oh, and I signed up for a mini triathlon in July called the Appleman and plan to sign up for the Danskin (the week following the Appleman) as soon as registration opens.

That's wonderful that you signed up for more events! I'm sorry to hear you were sick that's never fun and saps so much energy out of people. It is good to hear that Steve is supporting you and you are making it back to the gym again. I've heard fun things about spinning classes, but haven't seen the muscle work. Keep it up! What's your goal for how many days to spend at the gym and classes you can take?

My goal is to go to the gym twice a week, dependent on Steve's travel schedule to a large extent. Perhaps some weeks it will be less and some more. Then I need to fill in with at least 2 workouts at home. Home will be mainly cardio for now (treadmill, elliptical, and maybe some rowing), but as I learn how to do strength training in my class using the ball and other toys, I'll try to do my own strength work at home, too. Another goal is to increase the number of days and intensity that I work out in about a month or so, as I get into the groove and learn how to maintain a schedule.

Good for you! This is a hard time of the year to make the gym commitment, with sickness and weather always a factor. But it's great you've signed up for events. There's nothing like a deadline!
I do find that having a connection at the gym keeps me honest - I can't skip if people say "where were you?" the next time.
