Slogging along

You would think this dieting thing would get easier, not harder, over time. Perhaps it's the time of year, but this last week has been really challenging. Halloween temptation hasn't helped! I've been limiting myself to small size candies, and no more than one (ok, maybe two) in a day. And PMS on top of that.

I'm still losing, but feeling a both a little burned out and also a little scared of going back to "regular" eating. I will clearly have to continue really watching portion sizes and food choices, because I really don't want to regain the weight I've lost. We're going camping in Lancaster County PA this Thursday, and I'm a little worried. Biggest challenge will be an all-you-care-to-eat buffet that everyone else wants to go to. Ok, I'll eat more than the plan but I think I can control myself. But if we eat some lunches out too, it starts to get a little harder - overdoing it at one meal, I can make up for it at others, or the next day. 3.5 days of extra challenges is mostly just depressing.

But I feel like I'm struggling at home, too. Grey weather doesn't help. But I'm committed to doing it until November 26th - the end of the "Biggest Looser" contest at the gym. I have an actual shot at winning. How motivating would THAT be?!?

I'm sure you'll win! And we'll all be so proud!!
As for the buffet, just try to use it as an opportunity to try just a tiny bit of a bunch of things. Don't put too much food on your plate. Because it's a buffet, you'll have lots of choices, and you can choose mostly healthy options. Don't panic. Remain calm. ;-)

I'm excited that you are in the running for the biggest loser competition. That is both cool and motivating.
As for handling the buffet (which I am not terribly good at and your children are not young enough to distract you out of eating like mine do) I would say drink lots and lots of water and maybe eat a great big salad (without too much of the calorie filled extras) first. I actually saw new numbers on the scale that I hadn't seen for a really long time this morning. I can't say that we have been as good about going to the gym lately, but I have walked on campus some and as I said my children distract me from eating. My biggest thing is trying to get snacks for the kids but not indulging myself too much.

You can do it! Just don't overwhelm yourself by making it a huge deal and be realistic, but conservative in what you eat. Easier said then done, but I agree with Jill, don't fill your plate up fully and take the opportunity to make the choices. This is a good chance to work on your motivation for after the contest and I know you can do it. Keep us posted! I always find going out a lot is difficult because of the limited choices and the food portion sizes.

Yeah, portion control is the hard part. Plus the sweet tooth. :) I'm just struggling at home, too, and i'm trying to figure out what's changed. Last week was PMS, ok, but I feel like I'm falling off the wagon when I was finding it easy before. Although, I've cycled through the 6 weeks of menus back to the beginning, and based on my notes, I was drinking a protein shake most nights, adding some extra calories.

Wow! I'm so proud of you. This is great!

Resolve to leave stuff on your plate when you go out to eat. I know it's hard, and you all know that I totally suck at it, but practicing doesn't hurt. Just think about how great it feels to be losing weight and feeling healthier.

If I could just see some smaller numbers on my scale again. *sigh* I guess I'd have to try.
